Lajanuri HPP is one of the largest diversion hydroelectric power plant in Georgia in terms of installed capacity. It is located in the region of Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti, in Tsageri municipality.
The hydro power plant, operates by the common runoff of the river Lajanuri and the transfer of river Tskhenistskali, with the reservoir 24-hour and weekly regulation. Accordingly, engineering-hydro technical facilities have been created on the r. Tskhenistskali and the r. Lajanuri in particular, a concrete low-threshold dam has been built on the r. Tskhenistskali near the town of Tsageri, and in the narrow valley downstream of r. Lajanuri, near the village of Surmushi, there is a 69-meter-high arch dam.
Lajanuri HPP was put into operation in 1960. It should be noted, that an arched dam was designed and built for the first time in this period. Also, for the first time in Georgia, an underground power house was built.
The design generation of electricity is 438.0 million kWh. As a result of the reconstruction of hydro units №1 and №3 the installed capacity of the HPP increased to 115.568 MW, instead of the design installed capacity of 111.84 MW.
