Rioni Hydroelectric power station (Rioni HPP)

Rioni HPP is a medium head diversion hydroelectric power plant. It is built on the river Rioni in the city of Kutaisi. The main structure of Rioni HPP is located in the borders of the city of Kutaisi, the power node is located near the railway station “Rioni”. It operates without regulation- “run-of-river”.

Rioni HPP was put into operation in 1934. The design generation of electricity is 314.0 million kWh. As a result of the reconstruction (generator replacement) of hydro units №4 and №2, the installed capacity of the HPP increased to 54.0 MW, instead of the design installed capacity of 48.0 MW.
